I'll Go Mine

Feed Me!

Movie: Little Voice

I guess with the holidays and nice weather heaps of people have been going to the park, because when I went by at lunch today, the ducks were all just floating around the pond - they weren't going for any food. The poor kids with their bread were having to resort to feeding the pigeons and seagulls, and not too many of them were biting either.

Today's highlighted sight - Swami Uptown - for that liberal spiritual perspective.

And from my calendar at work today - "You can only make others better by being good yourself." Hugh R. Hanels

Don't Do Me Like That

Movie: Duets

So I wasn't going to get into this because it is not an issue here, but when it lands in my inbox it becomes my issue also.

People, please do not send me an e-mail of an opinion piece in a newspaper stating that immigrants must totally assimilate into American (Christian) culture, including saying Merry Christmas instead of Season's Greetings or Happy Holidays.

And when I point out that American Christians do not have any problems, but that Christians in other parts of the world do, do not agree, but then say that the (Christian) principles American was founded on are under attack - by acceptance of the "politically correct" liberal philosophy. Again, I'm still confused - no one is saying Christians cannot go to church or worship how they want to. Where are the facts about this? Oh, and by the way, I'm one of those politically correct liberals. And I am not the one sending out divisive e-mails on Christmas Day. And there are a lot of politically correct liberal Christians.

Also, please do not also say you value America's diversity before then saying you think immigrants need to adapt to American (Christian) culture. Because that makes you a liar.

You know, my family for years has received Christmas cards with the sentiments Season's Greetings and Happy Holidays on them - what's wrong with saying that now?

Some people in the States are trying to be more inclusive by realizing not everyone is the same, accepting them for it, and being respectful in what they say and do. And some people are kicking up a big ruckus over not getting their way. Which one is the more "Christian"? You tell me.

Paperback Writer

Why I Write - George Orwell

Movies we watched yesterday:

A Christmas Story - "My father worked in profanity the way other artists might work in oils or clay. It was his true medium, a master."

Garfield - "Once again, my life has been saved by the miracle of lasagna."

Elf - "Well, there are some things you should know. First off, you see gum on the street, leave it there. It's not candy."

The Station Agent - "Joe Oramas: Hey listen, if you guys do something later, can I join you?
Finbar McBride: We're not gonna do something.
Joe Oramas: No, I know, but if you do, can I join you?
Finbar McBride: We're not gonna do something later.
Joe Oramas: Okay, but, if you do?
Finbar McBride: Okay.
Joe Oramas: Cool."

Must Be Santa

OK, I have been griping about how my work has been treating me lately, but today we got our Xmas presents from the corporation, and they are pretty all right. We got a portable lantern (can plug in the wall or the car), a cool little travel bag with some binoculars, a compass, a whistle, a pocket knife with spoon and fork, a cleaning cloth for the binoculars, and a carabiner (which says not to be used for climbing). There was the book Driving Scenic New Zealand, a poncho, and a deck of playing cards. I loved it.

Congratulations to Sir Elton John and David Furnish and to anyone else who got "hitched" in the UK this week.

I Wanna Make It With You

Ugh, I am working on my assessment, so no time to blog.

Please feel free to check out Informed Comment in the meantime. Don't listen to Bush's lies, read Juan Cole. He actually knows what he's talking about.

I used "I Wanna Make It With You" as my title, because I can't believe I have it on my iTunes. Did you know there is quite a bit of strings action going on in that song? There is.

Spam Spam Spam Marvelous Spam!

Movie: Vera Drake

Ugh, have been getting comment spam all day - so annoying.

Went to the Full Moon Drumming Circle on Friday night. It had been a bitch of a week and Friday night I was pretty out of it, but I said I would go and driving in to Wellington the sky and city looked amazing in the sunset - really spectacular. Then we get there and it was just really cool - lots of great drumming and other instruments, people doing fire poi and fire sticks all around the circle, drums being passed around, dancing - I stayed until 1:00am, which is just crazy talk for me on a Friday night, and I wasn't even really that tired when I got home, but I knew I had stuff to do Saturday morning which is why I left. Can't wait to do it again.

Here's a song everyone needs in their collection - The Mexican Hat Dance - it's free!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY OLIVIA! On the 16th.

Just got in from a Full Moon Drumming Circle. It was pretty cool. More about it later, I have to get to bed - I can't even believe I'm up this late!

One More Cup of Coffee

So, you know I don't usually drink coffee, but I thought I would get some the other day, just for fun, and I got a nice holiday flavor, and was going in to work, trying to put my security tag on when I spilled said coffee on my shirt. A white shirt. Of course. But it wasn't like I spilled it down the front - oh no, I had to spill it on my shoulder. ??? What's up with that? Who spills coffee on their shoulder? Luckily I ran into the bathroom right away and washed it out with plenty of water. You couldn't even tell.

Shake Ya Body

Movie: King Arthur

We felt this earthquake tonight. It was kind of fun, because it rolled through my chair a couple of times, but then it stopped, thank god. Little earthquakes OK, big earthquakes bad.

It was a really nice night tonight - it's been humid, rainy and windy, but tonight it was quite balmy and just very nice. The air smells great and I just keep taking big breaths of it.

Nasty race riots are going on in Sydney. This picture makes me the saddest - what kind of parents take their kid to see a race riot?

And Her Name Was Veronica

Movie: Before Sunset

Tonight was a big night for us - the final of "Veronica Mars" (first season) and "Enterprise" - the final final. We also had some root beer, which was so nice.

Now we're off to watch some World Supercross - whoo hoo!

Y'all have a good weekend, and stay warm - we're supposed to get flooded out, but I doubt it.

Hello Old Friend

I got off the bus last night and was walking to my car, in a bit of a funk, and a woman was coming towards me pushing a stroller. I acknowledged her and was trying to get out of her way, when the kid in the stroller goes "HELLO!" I said "HI!" back, and you know, that really made my night and cheered me up. I need to start paying more attention to the kids.

You've got to hand it to Madge for ganking that ABBA sample - another great dance tune.

Simon just said his plane was going to go like "a scolded cat." Anyone heard that expression before, because I haven't, and I had to laugh.

OK, it's hot here and we need some kind of cool refreshment for dessert - see ya later!
