I'll Go Mine

Aotearoa, Rugged Individual

Some news from NZ:

Texas trouble

Yep, Denzel's allegedly in town

Aw, Poto

And good news from the States:

New US church leader says homosexuality no sin

Flag-burning amendment fails by a vote

I'm not looking forward to the morning - I have to take a cold shower because they didn't quite finish installing the solar water heater. But I have to wash my hair so there's no getting around it. Brrrrr.

I Don't Like Mondays

So, what'd everybody do this weekend?

Somebody's Watching Me

When riding public transport, always look where you are about to sit, because someone might have left a giant water bottle on the seat, and there might be a fat girl hiding behind a book but secretly watching to see what you will do when you sit down on it. Did she warn you about the bottle? No, she did not - she thought you were being weird already because you had gotten on the train once, and did not sit down right away. You also annoy her because you get out a book on the train ride home, but do not read it - why?

Oh, and thanks for just throwing the bottle on the floor of the train, so that it rolled around the whole way home. She saw that too.

Where Is Your Head Kathryn

Sorry I haven't been posting this week - KK was here! And she has set the bar pretty high for future guests, I tell ya - we barely knew she was here! Seriously, it was so great to spend several days with her, and I hope we didn't disappoint - the weather was a little cold and wet, and the wake-ups were a little early, but I know Simon and I had a good time, and I think KK actually liked the cold! Hopefully she will put her pics on the net somewhere - I can't wait to see them!

Better Late Than Never

For your weekend listening pleasure:

I heard them on my World Cafe: Next podcast - give 'em a listen.

Oh A Mighty Winds A Blowin'

I tell you what, I came out of work tonight and the wind batted me around like I was some kind of cat toy - I thought I was going to have to grab hold of something so I wouldn't blow out in the street.

Then they busted out the "old train" for my trip back to UH. I asked Simon how old he thought the train was and he said "older than us!" It made scary creaking sounds, but we made it there OK, so I shouldn't rag on it.

It is cold here. Very, very cold. Simon said there was snow on the hills outside our house, but since it is dark when I leave and dark when I get home, I wouldn't know.

I have no idea where KK is. The "weather bomb" that hit practically shut down the South Island the day she was supposed to fly there. I hope the tour had a contingency plan and she is still having fun.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ZAC!

I Don't Want Your Freedom

Whoo hoo, freedom!

It's funny 'cause it's true

Again, very funny

Well, I didn't get as much cleaning done as I should have - I'm very lazy, but I got a bunch of laundry done, and now we're waiting on the wind and rain to hit - should be a GREAT Monday for going to work.

Uncool As A Cucumber

You know, I know I don't eat enough vegetables, but it's really not on that when I do eat them, they jack me up. I've thrown up spinach, and cucumbers, which I quite enjoy on sandwiches or salads, keep reminding me that I ate them THE REST OF THE DAY! Seriously, I can't win.

KK has made it to NZ - I phoned her at her hotel in Auckland tonight, and she asked if I was doing anything fun this weekend - I said NO, I had to clean up the house before she got here! Ha Ha. Seriously, I think I probably need a gallon of Febreze to spray over everything in the house. At least the room she is sleeping in is dog free.

Went and saw this exhibit at lunch today. Some of it was quite disturbing and thought provoking.

Y'all have a good weekend! I'll be cleaning.

Will It Go Round In Circles

Adios Billy Preston

Today I saw a vending machine for crystals - just like a gumball machine, but you get a rock instead. It was pretty cool.

Congratulations to Zadie Smith on winning the 2006 Orange Prize. I haven't read On Beauty yet, but I've read both her other books and loved them. I get totally absorbed with her characters, and keep thinking about them after I've finished the book.

Don't Suffocate On Your Own Hate

Tell Your Senators: Don't Write Discrimination into the Constitution

You know, when I was home, a lot of people asked me if I would ever move back. And stuff like this makes me not want to. War, immigration, abortion - why can we not come up with workable, sensible solutions that help people instead of hinder? Why can't we think progressively, put ourselves in other people's shoes? Be a leader in human rights? I just don't get it.

No Tomorrow

OK, I just saw my 10th grade geometry teacher's son in a music video on TV here in NZ - whoot!

The band is Orson, and he's the lead singer.

I always tell Simon when people are from Texas, and this time I got to say the guy's actually from Grand Prairie - ha ha ha.
