For a fabulous American history read, Robin Recommends The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson. KK gave it to me to read when I was home, and I LOVED it. I'm devastated I'm never going to see the fair, and that so little of it survives. Seriously, check it out.
Saturday morning we went to our local DIY store, which is usually PACKED on the weekend. No one was there, which was good for us. We were about to pay for our stuff when we remembered we needed something else, so Simon ran off to get it. The cashier guy said "take your time, it's dead today." I asked why it was so dead, and he said because of "the game!" I'm like "what game?" and Wellington has made it into some rugby final. He ascertains I'm from the States and tells me it's just like the Superbowl. I then asked "what time does it start?" and he said 7:30. I'm just looking at him because it's not even 11:00 yet, and he says "everyone has to get the house ready." Right.
Simon and I turned the "game" on later, and it was so foggy, you could barely see what was going on on the field. It was hilarious. And Wellington lost. Ah well.
Check this out, and see if you can tell why I wrote a letter to them complaining?
Hint, it's not about the story, which is a whole other issue.
Went to a BookCrossing Meetup in Wellington last night, met some very nice people and when they found out I was going back to the States I got a bunch of books to release during my travels - we'll see what happens!
So my new job is so great because I get notified of cool haps in advance that I am actually able to attend - (1) because I am in close proximity and (2) because I can go to lunch whenever I damn well please. Case in point, Friday at lunch I was able to check out the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra at the Wellington Central Library (AND I can use the library's services when I want-another bonus). The ukes had a relaxing vibe so it was an enjoyable break in the day.
Unfortunately, my visit was somewhat marred by the security guard at the library busting me for going out the entrance. It wasn't like I jumped over the gates, or forced them to open or anything, they were wide open, so I just cruised on through and I told him so. He didn't care, but I say you can't go around busting people if your system allows them to "misbehave" so easily. Sheesh.
I had a falafel iskender for lunch today, and it was good and good for me.
For your weekend's viewing pleasure, two hotties, one video - Enjoy!
Whew, long time no blog. Sorry about that, my new job is kicking my ass. Well, not my new job, but the walk between the train station and my new job is. And my ass is getting kicked in my bellydancing classes also - needless to say, I'm sleeping pretty damn good these days.
