This was one of today's poems and it made me laugh out loud. Hope you enjoy it too.
Necessity
Work? I don't have to work. I don't have to do nothing but eat, drink, stay black, and die. This little old furnished room's so small I can't whip a cat without getting fur in my mouth and my landlady's so old her features is all run together and God knows she sure can overcharge— Which is why I reckon I does have to work after all.
Note to self - put in contacts if chopping onions is anticipated. Seriously, if I chop onions with no contacts in, it BURNS! With contacts - no problem!
So I had some things in mind to discuss, but it's Sunday afternoon, I'm feeling very lazy and just can't be bothered. I got about 20 things I should be doing, but none of them are very fun.
Omigod, a place that does Devonshire Teas has just opened within walking distance of my house. You know that's dangerous.
So I went over the the library this week to get a book - in the 523.4 section - anyway, some guy was standing there talking. I thought he was on a cell phone, because you know someone always is, blabbing away on a conversation you don't even want to remotely hear. So I grabbed my book and as I was leaving, I noticed he wasn't on a cell phone - he was just standing there reading aloud. And I didn't want to be rude and stare at him or disturb him, but seriously, I could have sat and listened to him reading - he was a good out-loud reader. And then I thought to myself - I wish there were more good out-loud readers I could listen to. I mean, I know National Radio has stories on their shows, and the library here has Tea and Tales, but that's really for old(er) people, and you sometimes get authors coming by reading from their work, but most of the time all these happen during the day, when I am at work. I would enjoy a weekly or monthly time, after work, when I could sit and just listen to someone read. It's very relaxing.
One of my fifth grade teachers, Mrs. Farr, read to us My Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George. She was a fantastic reader, and I think our whole class really loved that book and that time spent having Mrs. Farr read to us.
New Zealand just gets wacky at Easter. First, we get both Good Friday and Easter Monday off. Most businesses will be closed tomorrow, Good Friday, with only the basics such as petrol stations, some restaurants, tourist places open. No shopping! There's a whole big hoo ha about some garden centres that try to open every Good Friday. Simon says it has more to do with just getting a day off rather than anything religious. At every job I've ever worked the business has provided hot cross buns for morning tea on Thursday, and usually some kind of chocolate - chocolate is big here for Easter, eggs, bunnies - some are 1 KG! It's crazy I tell ya!
Saw The Love Boat in Wellington Harbour this afternoon - so in honor of The Pacific Princess, please enjoy The Love Boat Theme, another groovy TV theme song.
So I checked out this art installation Friday after a co-worker came in and said there were sheep wearing wool coats outside. He was right. We felt kind of bad for the sheep because it was pretty warm out that day, but per this article they were being looked after. I seriously could have sat and watched them all day, a bit like a fish tank I guess.
Anyone else see anything kind of weird over the weekend?
