Hey kids, I'm quite tired this week as there are two people off (in my four person team) at work and I have an assignment due Friday. So I'm just posting some links today.
Dennis Kucinich
Powells.com Interviews - John Irving - I love his novels, and I like him even more after reading this interview.
Someone's favorite Sesame Street moments - what, no "menah menah"? No "doing the pigeon"? No "Take Five"? (Actually, the Take Five moment was one of my least favorites - it scared me for some reason, those dancing triangles.) There's really too many to mention.

Simon is coming back on the ferry tonight - unfortunately, there is a gale force wind warning for the Cook Strait. We'll see if he makes it back.

Best word o' the moment - sheeple. I have read it a few times in blogs recently, and it makes me laugh every time. It's perfect!
Ooh, look like it's been around for over 20 years, but I've just now heard it. I'm always behind.
Some good news for Friday. Unfortunately, this is not a one-off. How can we help everyone else?
Simon called Thursday night and said he had rode off a cliff, but he was OK. He said I won't want to see his video. Great.

Today's supermarket shenanigans: I was trying to buy some "lite" sour cream, but a man was already in front of the sour cream section, dithering around. He picked up the smallest container available, stood there for a few moments, then put it down and grabbed the biggest container available. ??? What gives? How do you go from just a little sour cream to a heaping helping of sour cream? He seemed to be only buying beer, a box of wine and the giant container of sour cream, so he left me no clues. Anyone?
A celebration of non-penetration.

How in the world did we allow ourselves to get from there to here?
Democracy - by George?
Not so much walking today - I was tired, and it was rainy and windy when I got home. Ah well.
And I haven't heard from Simon tonight, so I don't know where he is and have no new pics. : (

Movie: Occasional Coarse Language
I have become a slave to the pedometer. We got free pedometers at work, and we are supposed to have a contest to see what team gets the most steps in. Unfortunately, we did not get put on a team, and so we made our own team, but some people claim they can't walk, so I don't think our team will do very well. But it's cool to see how far you walk (or don't walk) in a day, and I even took my walking shoes to work so I could walk during lunch. Cassie is also glad because she gets a walk in the evening. It's all good.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JENNIE!
I don't know if May or June is the best time to come to NZ, but with fares like these you might as well. Plus, I have plenty of vacation time and need to take some time off myself. Go on, think about it.
And a little something for Friday:
The World's Best Bars - or are they?
So, you want to try tequila...?

Y'all have a good weekend!

Alright, I have to go to this party Saturday night, and you are supposed to dress up like someone from TV. I know there are thousands of characters, but I can't really think of any I want to go as. I don't want to rent a costume or really have to buy more than a shirt, so does anyone have any ideas????
Simon is going as Al Borland.

What does that mean, "total eclipse of the heart"?
Info on the solar eclipse.
Here is a very nice beans and rice recipe. I couldn't find black beans here, so I used kidney beans and it was still good.
(Yeah, I couldn't believe I ate kidney beans either, but there you go. I guess I am an adult now.)
Hey, remember that song, "I'm An Adult Now" by The Pursuit of Happiness? We went and saw them in Lubbock at some club. That was a funny song. It's even funnier now.

Thanks to Redneck Mother for giving me today's entry with the passed on Book Meme:
You're stuck inside Fahrenheit 451, which book do you want to be?
How about the OED? Something big and fat like me.
Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character?
Augustus McCrae from Lonesome Dove. I lurve him.
The last book you bought is:
Two books (for $10.00) at the same time: Dr Zhivago by Boris Pasternak and Fury by Salman Rushdie.
The last book you read:
Family Matters by Rohinton Mistry. Not as good as A Fine Balance (that book broke my heart) but still way too easy to get wrapped up in the characters and story.
What are you currently reading?
Future Shock by Alvin Toffler. I've only read the intro, so can tell you no more at this point.
Five books you would take to a deserted island
The Complete Plays of William Shakespeare - yes, it's one book.
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte - I love that book
The new Adrian Mole book - can't miss out on that!
An atlas, to memorize the world
And I guess some survival book so I could eventually get off the deserted island.
Who are you going to pass this stick to (3 persons) and why?
CynWorld because she reads everything, Sharp Curves Ahead because I think she will give thoughtful answers, and Jammin' Julia because why not hear the youth voice?
In other book related news, Adios Saul Bellow.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BETH!
I got told off by my eye doctor for wearing my contacts too long. I'm scratching up the front of my eyes. So now I have to leave the contacts off one day a week if possible and wear glasses. Bleh!
You know, why go to university or the science museum or even public school if you are not going to expand your mind and try to learn something new? Yeah, you might hear something you disagree with, so what? Research it and find out the truth - or go somewhere where you won't be challenged, but stop ruining it for everyone else!
Oh, and you CAN see the movie Volcanoes of the Deep Sea at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. Now. After all the hoo ha. Ha Ha.
Anyone going to Supercross this weekend?
