Good Eats tonight was a show on okra. Now I'm going to have to venture into Lower Hutt this weekend to try to find some so I fry it up. Even the pickling looked fairly easy, except for keeping everything really clean, which might be a problem for me as I'm a bit of a Pigpen.
This study makes me go "what tha...? When I look at that pic of George Brett, I look at his ass and thighs. In fact, pretty much any baseball player in those pants get the once over. Anyone else?
Man, I left a library book in the car while I was at my classes today, and when I came back to the car the cover of the book had curled up in the sun - the protective plastic covering had shrunk I guess - I tried to press it back out but it still looks a little wonky. I've never torn up a book in my life so I am pretty mortified.
Speaking of the library, I have to throw out the link to Library Elf again. I have library cards from two different libraries, and I check CDs, videos, DVDs and books out of both of them at the same time - with different due dates at different times at different libraries, it can be a little hard to keep up. Library Elf totally keeps track of all that for you, sending you an e-mail before your books are due, plus letting you know when holds are ready. I can't praise it enough.
If you are putting together a spice mix, say for fajitas, and you somehow dump half a bottle of garlic salt into your practically finished mix, then just dump everything out and start over. DO NOT USE THE MIXTURE WITH ALL THE GARLIC SALT! Even if it smells OK, it will NOT be OK once you try to eat your fajitas. Unless you LIKE super-salty food, then I guess everything WILL be OK.
Most importantly, I have a brand new niece if you didn't know already. Maya, born February 28, 2007. I'll post pictures soon. Probably a lot, so get ready.
So a couple of days ago I answered my phone at work and the person on the other end asked how I was doing and I said "just fine", you know, how it's said in Texas, and the person on the phone started laughing. I said "I'm sorry" and was going to explain but she said no no it was OK. I remember I used to work for a guy who would ask how I was and I would say "just fine" and he said "no, you should say you're great!" but working for him WASN'T so great so I didn't want to lie and all.
This morning at the train station I saw a pigeon coming down the stairs. You know, like one step at a time, not flying. It was freaking hilarious, and he was already practically at the bottom or I would have whipped out my camera and gotten a shot.
We have a rabbit living in our front yard. It's just little and very cute. I wish it would eat my weeds.
Driving home from work they were playing some really crap annoying music (stupid Mika) and I flipped around and heard the music from The Cave Ride - you know, this music - so I made Simon listen to it. It made me happy.
Speaking of music, Robin Recommends the Rushmore Soundtrack - it just makes you happy too for some reason.
