Family Tree
Well, sorry I haven't been on in a while - I've been obsessed with genealogy for a few days, and that's all I've been doing on the computer. It's pretty fascinating what all is out there and what I have learned.
For example, I learned one of my great-grandmothers was from Sweden - who knew? I didn't.
Doctors were on two different lines. I remember my Dad telling me about someone in his family who was a doctor, who went out one night on his horse on a call and never came back - they never found him either. And there he was!
I can get the original of my great-grandparent's "Permission to Marry" from the Rains County Genealogical Society. Uh, can someone please send me a US stamp?
I learned one of my great-aunts was a schoolteacher at the Bonanza School, and my other great aunt's ambition when she was a junior at Sulfur Springs High School in 1927 was "To be on time at school every morning."
My Mema and Pepa were married on January 17, 1939 in Miller County, Arkansas
My great-aunt Chester was married by Judge F.W. Coleman
And I found my mom and dad on birth records, and death records for other relatives. And other people have already done pedigrees for my Pepa, my Granddaddy Covington, and my great-grandfather Shelton Cates.
I just think it is interesting that we lose touch with our ancestors so quickly, unless you have some kind of record like a Bible to keep track, so it is an adventure to see what you can find out. And it's fascinating to see what other people have put out there that pertains to you and your family.
I'm sure I'll have more to report as I go along. If anyone is going by the Dallas, Ft Worth or Grand Prairie public libraries in the near future, could you let me know? I would like you to look something up for me please. Thanks.

Bang Your Head
So I was trying to look in this shoe shop window, but it was hard to see in because of the sun, so I got closer, you know how you do, with your hand shielding the glass so you can see in, and somehow I banged my head on the glass - I guess my depth perception is off. I said "OW!" so everyone could be sure it was me that did it, then walked away.
Finally saw Comet McNaught. We went up on this hill to try to see it, never did, then I saw it on the way home. And then when we got home, we could see it from there - I could lie on my bed and see it. We didn't have to leave at all. It was pretty damn cool.
I swear our "broadband" is no better than dial-up. It's a crying shame, and very frustrating.
That's all for today.

Let Me Be There
This has probably been in the news in Texas, but it's worth reading anyway.
The Innocence Project
And now for something a little lighter - obviously some people don't read the paper, internet news sites, or watch the news.

Do You Like Pina Coladas?
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!
AND
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CYNTHIA!
I don't know about you, but I get on these jags of only drinking one thing, or only eating one thing, until I get tired of it. Right now I'm on a pina colada jag. At least I was, until I ran out of rum. So then I made them with vodka, which evidently is a "chi-chi". But now I'm not using any alcohol at all, and throwing bananas in there so I can get some fruit. I would much rather drink my fruit than eat it - I just don't enjoy eating that much fruit, but I know I need to eat more of it, so this seems like a good way. The only dud is when the bananas (or whatever fruit you are using) don't get blended up enough, and they are still chunky and block the straw. So annoying!
What jag are you on right now?

Listen
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KAYLEE!
Most nights before I go to sleep I hear a morepork outside - it is a native owl.
Listen and see if you can tell why it's called a morepork.

Alone Again
So Simon is away on holiday this week, and although I am lonely, it is good to have control of the TV - much more music channels and movies, less History Channel. I watch History Channel too, I just don't have to watch every show on WWII that comes on!
Anyone seen the comet?

Scratch 'N Sniff
Aw, you can't enjoy scratching 'n sniffing these stamps with the picture of the mother pig and her babies on it, can ya?
Speaking of scratch 'n sniff, don't buy a watch with a band made out of fabric. I don't care how cute it is.

Fingerprint File, You Get Me Down
Well, Simon says he's not coming now.
For f*&^'s sake, people are just trying to go to Disneyworld. Oh wait, they scan fingers too.
It just ain't on, people.

Happy New Year!
Hey, it's 2007 here folks!
But I'm all jacked up, so I'll just leave it at that. Maybe something special later today.
