Get Into The Groove

Interesting thoughts by an American visiting New Zealand.

Margarita Jell-O Shot - did you know in NZ they call gelatine desserts "jelly"?

When In Doubt, I'll Whip It Out

Hump Day Hottie - Hot or not?

Hey, these are a couple of things I've been thinking about - anyone have any thoughts?

Everyone in NZ is pretty chuffed about Keisha Castle-Hughes getting a Best Actress nomination (and of course LOTR, but that pretty much goes without saying). If you liked Whale Rider (and come on, who didn't?), you should check out the NZ movie Rain, and the performance in that movie by Alicia Fulford-Wierzbicki. I thought it was pretty impressive.

And I Think It's Going To Rain Today

Music: broadcasts vol. 11

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.
-The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

I ganked that quote from the MediaChannel Newsletter.

Don't be silent.

And please read Riverbend, who is not silent. Saddam may be gone, but that doesn't mean things are better in Iraq.

Man, it has been raining since Sunday. It's a real drag, since it is supposed to be summer. Oh sure, the farmers are happy, but no one else is.

Do You Remember

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KAYLEE!

Dragged Simon to this today, but he wasn't really into it, and there was not as many of the sustainable energy booths I was hoping to see. In fact, I only saw one. So, we didn't stay very long.

Molly Kelly, the woman whom Rabbit-Proof Fence is based on, died this past week. If you haven't seen the movie, you really should. It's a heart-breaking story.

It Keeps You Runnin'

You know how in movies when something goes wrong with someone's stomach, you hear those horrible stomach problem noises and think "no one sounds like that." Well, I'm here to tell you, YOU can sound like that if you have a little too much isomalt. It happened to me last night, and to some extent it is still happening today. It's like a bad stomach bug with no pain, but the noise was what was freaking me out. Bad news, I tell ya.

This never would have happened if I hadn't been dieting. I guess the good news is I think I dropped about three pounds during all of this. So maybe it IS something to consider after all.

Here's another poo related link.

There's A Double Dutch Bus Comin' Down The Street

Music: "I Want To Break Free" - Queen

I have been riding the bus from Upper Hutt to Lower Hutt, and yesterday coming home the bus driver just did not want to stop. He totally blew by this girl at a bus stop, and these kids in the back of the bus started laughing at the look on the girl's face - I would have had that look too, especially if I needed to get somewhere at a certain time. He has also failed to stop when someone hit the button, and the woman had to yell "Stop the bus!" Then another woman did not hit her button hard enough, so he did not know to stop, and she yelled at him "Excuse me" and he yelled back at her, then he was arguing with some other woman about how much the fare was - wacky hijinks, I tell ya.

It is also not cool to start the South Beach Diet, then get assigned a job right above the Subway shop, having to smell the fresh baked bread all day. And to stumble across some other fresh bread/pretzel place this morning trying to get to work. AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGG!!!!

Has anyone heard some really bad remakes of "At 17" and "She Believes in Me"? Who are these by? I can hear them across the room at work, but cannot hear who has butchered them. Please hip me.

Thank God It's Friday - y'all have a good weekend!

You Got A Friend

Hump Day Hottie - Hot or not?

I must have been looking especially friendly today, because when I was at lunch some dude asked if he could sit at the table with me, then some woman yelled at me from her car to ask where some street was, then another woman asked me where the bus went - I was not able to help the last two, but at least I said so with a smile.

Working 9 to 5

Home Power Magazine

Well, I have a temp job for 3-4 weeks - whoo hoo! I'm glad to be making a little money, but sad because we bought a little pool today, and now I won't get to use it until this weekend. That's the breaks, I guess.

Crocodile Rocking Is Something Shocking

Movie: Battle Beyond The Stars

Uh-oh, Crocodile Hunter is in trouble. I say it's good to see a dad spending time with his kid. And he's right, the kid is going to grow up around them, might as well start learning about them now.

Larry Powell's pet blog - Larry lived near us growing up. He may still live there, I have no idea.

Burning In My Heart

Movie: Orange County, Monsters, Inc.

Well, it's been about 75 degrees here today, and I am acting like it's about 90. My body is all screwed up now, I would never make it back in Texas. I think it's actually been hotter in Texas, though, and it's the middle of winter! Damn global warming.
