03/08/2008: "A Gripe and a Compliment"

So I tried to call someone in the US today, and I got stymied by the phone system - the one where you have to be a recognized number or know the code. Well, I wasn't and didn't, so I had to say my name and then who knows what happened? I ended up going to a voice mail and well, that's just not the same as talking to someone in person, is it? Especially on their birthday.

People, I know I am far away but please - if you move, give me your new details. If your phone numbers change, give me your new details. If you put some kind of code on your phone, give me the code. It's not like I'm going to frickin' call all the time. If you get a new e-mail address and would prefer me to use it, e-mail me and let me know. If your partner status, child status, pet status, job status, anything changes, I really do want to know. I know some things are unpleasant and sad to discuss, or to let people know about, but that is life, you know?

On the positive side, this fun blog I read gave Texans a big compliment about their friendliness. Check out the rest of her blog and her Flickr page - I swear hours will fly by as you are looking at her pics.

That code system really sucks. If you want to screen calls, use the answering machine.

Yeah, or caller ID - I can tell on my caller ID if a call is from the States, so I pick up.

How are the flies? By the way, I got a new job at the hospital. I will be starting after we get back from spring break in Texas. It is not going to be exciting but it's what I need now. I will be doing pre-admitting phone calls (patient medical history, drugs they take, etc) for day surgery. I will work one week Mon, Wed, Friday and the next week Thur, Friday. Very few weekends and very few evenings (only if they are backed up.) I will also be verifying pt's charts and checking orders with doctors. I will be making basically the same amount of money but with full benefits, which is something I am going to need. I just hope it works out.

The flies are still around, just not nearly so many. I bought three different things to try to get rid of them.

Congrats on the new job! Hope it goes OK.
